E101

Made of brass and steel mounted on a wood base. Drawn brass boiler, 6” x 3” with whistle and safety valve. Massive brass flywheel weighing 1lb. Two-speed gear. Lower gear takes Meccano pulleys. Guaranteed speed of 2,000 r.p.m., runs for 1 ½ hrs.

M101

Made of brass and steel mounted on a drilled metal base. Drawn brass boiler, 6” x 3” with whistle, safety valve and control tap. Massive brass flywheel weighing 1lb. Two-speed gear. Lower gear takes Meccano pulleys. Guaranteed speed of 2,000 r.p.m., runs for 1 ½ hrs.

M122

Made of brass and steel mounted on a drilled metal base. Drawn brass boiler, 7” x 2” with whistle, safety valve and control tap. Two-speed gear. Lower gear takes Meccano pulleys, etc. Drip feed lubricators, giving constant supply of oil, and exhaust through the chimney. Attains a speed of 2,000 r.p.m., runs for 30 mins.

M135

Brass and steel throughout. Brass boiler, 5 ¾” x 1 ¾” with safety valve. Two-speed gear and two driving pulleys. The low gear spindle will take Meccano pulleys, sprocket wheels etc. Drip feed lubricator and steam exhausts through the chimney. Runs for 30 to 40 mins and ‘revs’ at 2,000 r.p.m

M140

Brass and steel throughout. Twin cylinders with brass pistons, stroke 9/16”. Two-speed gear. Two turned brass flywheels 1” x 5/16”. Geared countershaft will take Meccano pulleys, sprocket wheels etc. Brass boiler 4 ½” x 2” with safety valve and overflow tap. Drilled metal base. Runs for 30 mins on a filling.

M158

Brass and steel throughout. Brass cylinder and piston, stroke ¾”. Two-speed gear. Brass flywheel 1 ½” x 7/16”. Two-speed gear and two driving pulleys. The low gear spindle will take Meccano pulleys, sprocket wheels etc. Brass boiler 4” x 1 ¾” with safety valve and overflow tap. Drilled metal base. Runs for 25 mins.

Brass and steel throughout. Brass cylinder and piston, stroke ¾”. Two-speed gear. Brass flywheel 1” x 5/16”. Brass boiler 4” x 1 ¾” with safety valve and overflow tap. Drilled metal base. Runs for 25 mins.

M175

Brass boiler 3 ¾” x 1 ¾” with safety valve. Brass cylinder, piston, flywheel and gearwheel. Exhausts through chimney. Drilled metal base.

M180

Brass boiler 3 ¼”” x 1 ¾” with safety valve. Brass cylinder, piston and flywheel. Exhausts through chimney. Drilled metal base.

Bowman Swallow

Patent wood hull, length 20”, beam 3 ½”. Bowman engine, ¾”stroke x ½” bore. Polished brass boiler, 4 ½” x 1 ½”, with safety valve and overflow tap. Steams for 20 mins on one filling.

Bowmans of Luton

 

Bowman Models in Luton are often confused with the original company of the same name which was based in Dereham. Bowman Luton company started long after the Dereham company closed down. The founder purchased the rights to the name and trade marks and they are the only items which connect the two companies.

Bowman PW 201

Fitted with a brass boiler, brass cylinder and piston, heavy brass flywheel, silver steel crankshaft, aluminium firebox, brass fuel tank and wick tube and a heavy steel base plate drilled to suit Meccano.

Bowman PW 202

The same as the PW201 except that the engine is mounted on the boiler.

Bowman PW203

All brass boiler, 5” x 2”. It is fitted with a brass whistle and an all brass safety valve, brass water filling plug and water level socket. Heavy brass flywheel, brass cylinder and piston, also a heavy brass lubricator. Aluminium firebox and a large heavy steel base plate drilled to suit Meccano.

Bowman PW 204R

All brass boiler, 5” x 2”. It is fitted with a brass whistle and an all brass safety valve, brass water filling plug and water level socket. Heavy brass flywheel, brass cylinder and piston, also a heavy brass lubricator. Aluminium firebox and a large heavy steel base plate drilled to suit Meccano.
